Campaign Overview
KOFI DAY OF SERVICE
September 22, 2021
We organized a one-day, multi-city opportunity to honor the legacy of musician Kofi Burbridge on what would have been his 60th birthday. Volunteer shifts took place at non-profits in six cities that held special importance to Kofi - Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, NYC, Jacksonville, and Washington DC. Alongside music fans, members of Tedeschi Trucks Band (Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, sound engineer Bobby Tis plus TTB horns Kebbi Williams, Ephraim Owens, and Elizabeth Lea) participated in Jacksonville. Members of Kofi’s family participated in Charlotte. Audio messages of gratitude from Kofi’s sister Leilani and brother Oteil were played at each event. We created Kofi tee shirts and sent to volunteers as ‘thank you’ gifts.
Our impact: 60 volunteers, 168 service hours donated, 10,164 pounds of potatoes sorted, 9970 meals prepared, 3840 chocolate cookies prepared, 1305 boxes of meals packed and 408 sofrito burgers prepared.
Kofi Day of Service events took place at these nonprofits: Open Hand Atlanta, Greater Boston Food Bank, Charlotte’s Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Jacksonville’s Feeding Northeast Florida, NYC’s God’s Love We Deliver and D.C.’s Capital Area Food Bank.
Kofi Burbridge was born on September 22, 1961, and passed away on February 15, 2019, due to complications from a cardiac condition. Kofi was an inspirational keyboardist, flutist, composer, arranger and two-time Grammy Award-winner who generously shared his musical gifts as a member of Aquariam Rescue Unit, The Derek Trucks Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band.
